Welcome

Welcome to the Postgraduate Show installation

Installed sound creates dialogues with the context it is installed into, opening the viewers eyes to the architecture around them and their place within it.

The sonic compositions you can hear were made using field recordings taken within ‘White Cube’ galleries.

These recordings have been edited to emphasise their haunting characteristics, affecting the six boundaries of experience that my thesis identifies and discusses.

My compositions are installed using two types of speakers:

A subwoofer speaker to produce near-infrasonic sounds that cause the architectural acoustics and the bodies of the audience to resonate.

And a parametric speaker, which projects sound in beams of audibility, sculpting the volume of the gallery with an invisible, yet tactile sonic experience. The sound it emits is beyond the range of human hearing until it demodulates on impact with the enclosing walls of the ‘White Cube’ or with the haptic body of the spectator.

The directive and resonant sounds produced, create unmediated dialogues between the sound, the site and yourself: the spectators who interact with the installations.

Also exhibited here, is a poster with the abstract of my research project. Titled:

Sonic Hauntings: navigating the White Cube through sound.

The exhibited text includes my abstract, which outlines the boundaries and dialogues of the research. "Installed sound creates dialogues with the context it is installed into, opening the viewers eyes to the architecture around them and their place within it."

My Research Journal is a multi-faceted resource tool that compliments my thesis, please feel free to look through the site if you are interested in the research project.
