Apply yourself completely to the placements, impress the teachers to demonstrate your capability as a teacher. Placements are most essential experience of the course, it is essential to apply the knowledge of the sessions to the craft of teaching.

1 - Professionalism

Dual role - teaching experience & student

Uphold the standards of a professional teacher

- attendance is incredibly important

- consistently pass the teaching standards - positive contribution to ethos of the school + professional high standards in and outside of school. how you project yourself + tolerance and respect for others + developing professional relationships with other staff.

Six principles of professionalism:

\\ Be there early, consistently punctual and in a positive routine. Do trial runs : how long it will take to get to a classroom. Know your timetable. Follow procedures if you are late etc - learn and put it right. - always get there before the students.

Attendance is tracked both at placement and at IOE. Every session is compulsory. missing sessions are only permitted in event of emergency.

Falling below 95% triggers attendance follow up.

\\ Pass no judgement, Know your place, keep professional. See everything as a learning experience. Be humble and sensitive.

\\ Communicate Judiciously. Understand and follow hierarchies, know systems and policies, be open where appropriate. If unsure about a situation ask your tutor. know rules for mobiles and emails, be professional on all social media linked to the course. - including student led whatsapp communication.

\\ Take ownership and Responsibility. Know systems, policies and people. Know your classes & don't expect the teacher to do it. manage upwards if needed, sensitively. be appreciative, think ahead, keep promises.

\\ Act like a teacher; be a teacher. What would you as a parent want a class teacher to do. Support learning best.

\\ Proactively seek solutions. Subject mentor, PCM - Profesional coordinating mentor - formal observers, head of department, Other teachers. Tutor, Subject leader, Institute partnership managers (ITM) Louise Vink - in charge of student liason.
