DEAD BIRDS

drown.jpg

At the Beginning of 2019, Oil Rig Ensco 72 was erected on the Coast of Bournemouth. In Protest against it, I constructed Skeletal Bird Sculptures out of branches, to represent the negative impact that the Oil Drilling has on its surrounding wildlife and Ecosystems. I then boiled down Coca-Cola to a thick Oil/Tar texture, and spread it all over the sculpture to represent the consumerist corporations that are negatively affecting the environment. I then Photographed my work on the shores of bournemouth, in its ideal exhibition location.

I bound the sculptures only using biodegradable rope so as to be friendly to the environment in the construction of my work, which required the application of various tying techniques so that the form would hold on its own.

While the smaller bird sculpture I covered completely in 'Oil', the larger bird I was not able to do so as it took over ten hours to boil the Coke necessary for even the smaller one.
