Artist Statement

As an Artist I paint images of the invisible and give voice to the silent. To reveal hidden connections and encourage us to reflect on our cultural climate.

In my work I deploy a range of versatile techniques and practices, responding to the materiality of the subject so I can deconstruct it and engrave in it my own meaning. This allows me to create socially engaged artworks that

alter the perceptions of the mundane.

I also often incorporate bold, sculptural paintings, representing the explored themes in a traditional artistic medium.

In my more recent works I have been exploring the digital iconoclasm of image and sound, investigating data bending and glitch art as a means of revealing the invisible mechanisms of technology that we have become dependent on. One technique I use is Artificial Spectral Synthesis, which allows for microtonal audio to be generated from images.

I create multi-sensory explorative works that combat the digitisation of sense experience, which flattens and dulls our senses to a finite resolution. My work fits in the context of Klangkunst, where sounds are installed into virtual spaces and explore our relation to time and space.

My artistic practice aligns with Heidegger's Phenomenology, which holds that there are invisible mechanisms that can only be seen once broken down and reconstructed, allowing us to change our outlook on the mundane. My application of this theory has been in activism, institutional critique and commentary; it has been critical in my practice and will keep inspiring me to make art that inspires real change.
