Artist Statement
My creative practice operates within a post-medium condition, where the choice of medium and processes are dictated by what best communicates the intended message. This approach, inspired by McLuhan’s notion that "the medium is the message," emphasises versatility and a foundational research-based methodology.
Utilising this approach, I employ a diverse range of techniques and practices, deconstructing materials and concepts to imbue them rich contextual significance. This operates within Heidegger's phenomenology, which posits that invisible mechanisms become visible only when broken down and reconstructed, enabling a re-evaluation of perspectives and challenging conventional thinking. I apply this theory in my activism, institutional critique, and research-based practice, making it a critical part of my practice that continues to inspire me to create art that drives real change.
Completing my Master of Research in the Arts solidified my practice through a developmental research process. Analyses are not merely supportive of the artwork but integral to describing, justifying, and embodying its goals. This research provides a unique language through which the artwork can communicate and reference, leading to deeper meanings, intertextual intrigue, and inspiring actionable knowledge. My practice is an iterative and evaluative inquiry, constantly seeking to discover and apply knowledge to communicate an independent creative voice.
